For the past 2 years I have been painting on wood.  I love the sensuous grain lines.  I never frame these pieces.  It is doubtful that you can as I always keep the wood’s natural edge which is so often curved.  You can’t fit a curved piece in a square frame.

For my upcoming show I am painting on glass – these pieces just have to have frames.  I mostly use black or gold frames, with the occasional stained wood frame.  I try to keep related paintings in the same style of frame so they look like a cohesive batch when hung in the gallery or someone’s home.

I recently brought a few glass paintings to a craft show and they did very well.  It was fascinating to hear people’s comments.  I was somewhat depressed when a large piece sold and the husband said he loved the frame. Is it possible that someone could notice a frame over the artwork? Or is it merely an unexpected finishing touch that can bring the whole presentation together? Though I hope that people will most enjoy my work, I can’t help but take the time to select beautiful frames that suit each painting.
